inspiration for Gunslinger joe's look

So for research i looked into old comic books, and looked at the way the characters were drawn, and pick up on any relevant features.

 You can see that the majority of the characters have been drawn with a black outline to highlight features. The designs are relativity simple as don't include that much detail. its clear and simple

 I think now i will have an attempt at creating the gunslinger character in a similar style

Using this picture as i reference i then used Flash to create a basic outline shape just using unjoined black lines.

 This is the result, although i do like the outcome and it does follow suit with what the comic designs look like, i just feel its missing something. It doesn't really have any character to it. I think i am going to have a little rethink about this design.
